Marauder - MB1 - Dwarf Regiment

Ever since they first appeared in WD issue 117 I wanted to have them. Dwarfs, Marauder Dwarfs to be exact. I must have looked at the ad a million times by now, imagining how they would gloriously march into battle, but it was never meant to be, until recently...
Ad from WD117
Somewhere in 2007 I realized I could collect them through eBay and realize a long kept dream. Painstakingly I collected them one by one. They all came from England, painted and in worn condition. Who knows what battles they must have endured before they finally found their way to my doorstep.

I carefully stripped, cleaned and prepared them for proper treatment and started the project somewhere in June 2011. Prior to this project, I painted a Dark Elf Regiment which took about 4 years to finish, I was hoping to finish this project in less time.

I try not to start new projects while working on one, but unusual circumstances seduced me, and before I knew it, I lost one year on making a Modular Gaming Table. All and all the project took 2 years to finish!

Why did it take so long? Priorities mainly, there always seems to be something more important to do. When I finally do get at the bottom of the list, I usually have about 1 hour to spend on painting. This is why I focus on one project at a time and try to finish it before anything else. So far it seems to be working, even though it takes years to finish.

I like to think of them as a dwarf mercenary regiment from Tilea working for the empire. I painted them exclusively with Vellejo Game Colors. The banner I made from scratch and contains some freehand.

Now, without further ado, I proudly present you my very own MB1 - Dwarf Regiment.

  4. Awesome! I have those models as well as many of the Citadel dwarves from that same time. They have so much more character than the stuff that is being produced today. Personally I'm working an acquiring more of the dwarves from the original Bugman's Rangers box set.

  5. Vibrant colours and just generally superb brushwork. I remember this ad, too! Funnily I always seemed to prefer Marauder stuff as a youngster...
